Part Deposit On Invoice

I have noticed there are a lot of threads around stating they wish to have part payments invoiced however I couldn't find a solution in any of the threads I looked at (that relate to me anyway).

 

Basically what I was thinking would work is with an invoice, you select to "Add Payment" and enter in your despoit amount. This part payment shows up as a deposit on the invoice and then the balance remains.

 

At the moment I have tried this with an invoice (50% added as a payment) however when you download the pdf it still shows the full amount outstanding?? And nothing about the part payment made.

 

Why doesn't the balance show on the invoices? Am I missing something?

i have made modifications to my companys pdf invoice, we simply made a query to the db in php and brought in new variables and added a few lines on the bottom of the invoice to show up only if partial payments are made and show balance owed, if no partial or full payment then we leave it as is.
