How to import charges for consumption based items

brooks

Question

I can't seem to find anything in the docs or in the system itself to help with a batch style import of additional adhoc consumption based items. I'd like to be able to bill for things like CPU instance hours and bandwidth usage collected via a custom utility. What's the best way to accomplish this using WHMCS?

I'll go ahead and answer my own post with what I've learned.

If you just have a few consumption based items to bill for you can manually add them as "billable items".

If you have a large number of items you would need write a program to import them using the provided billable items API calls.

The only remaining question I have is how you define the "payment method". Although it would be uncommon, customers could use various payment options for different services. If that's the case it how does WHMCS decide what method to use?
