help creating custom PDF's

I have created new pages for the client area no problem using the

example provided at: http://wiki.whmcs.com/Creating_Pages

 

The problem is I can't seem to be able to create a PDF page.

 

When using example_001.php from the TCPDF examples I just see the text of the tpl file

 

When using my invoicepdf.tpl I get

 

Fatal error: Smarty error: [in default/statementpdf.tpl line 28]: syntax error: unrecognized tag: $pdf->Cell(0,4,trim($companyaddress[$i]),0,1,'R'); (Smarty_Compiler.class.php, line 446) in /var/www/whmcs/includes/smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1093

 

Any help and suggestions or point me towards a working example would be greatly appreciated.
