Stripe Changes

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the advice @brian! I'll bare that in mind, but right now, any hope is accepted. If Stripe decide to shut me down for being non-compliant before the release my headaches are only just beginning 🤣🤣🤣

Stripe 3D Secure is now In Progress

This is planned to be in 7.8, along with SCA, which is currently in development and should be available well in advance of Stripe's deadline.

Hi @WHMCS Lawrence, thanks for responding with the official word. Does this mean we'll be able to use Stripe's Chargeback Protection and would this apply when processing payments admin-side through WHMCS? Or would the client have to make the payment themselves?

3DSecure is only for payments initiated by clients themselves - renewal payments will be handled as they are currently and treated as authorized renewal payments. I'd recommend asking Stripe about how they handle chargeback protection, as that would be part of their own policies and not specific to our module.

Stripe does webhooks / call backs when a charge backs / dispute comes in .  As such, WHMCS can setup call backs within the module to handle such events.  Their docs explain this in detail.

Is there any update on the timeline of this? All transactions for my business run through Stripe and WHMCS. Getting concerned

try not to - that deadline is your strongest weapon with something like this -  without that, WHMCS would almost certainly not have "rushed" to get this feature added in v7.8.... but because that deadline exists, they'll have to try to beat it.

The SCA comes into effect in 59 days.

I indeed never seen a date other than referring September month as the SCA ready time.

Is there an official last date for this change?

I'm hoping for an official update.

But SCA has been in the pipeline for a long time. If it's not ready, you have to question why we pay every month.

Hi everyone, as mentioned by John in that feature request, we expect 7.8 to reach beta status later this month, so the general release of 7.8 should be available in advance of the deadline. Rest assured that we are aware of the impact of this change and are working to get it taken care of.

You keep saying that, but fail to understand that issuing a stable release at 23:59 on September 13th isn't a sane solution for the user base.  Even if a stable release shipped  five minutes from now it would still be too late.

Beta this month  means a bug infested GA release end August, followed by a point release early September.  That gives us absolutely no time to test anything, no time for the very complex template updates many of us have to do (often involving third party developers out of our control), no time to port other mods/hooks/extensions/whatever, no time to deploy in an organized fashion that protects the absolutely business critical function of collecting money from our clients.

We'll just have to throw it out there and hope for the best.  WHMCS will all stand around patting themselves on the back and rearranging their superhero capes, having 'beat the deadline', while the long suffering user base gets to pick up the pieces 🤬

Hi everyone,

The WHMCS V7.8 Beta is out today you'll find the Beta Discussion Boards Here, The Release Notes Here, and the download files here and in the Auto Updater if you would like to test the beta and do not have a developer license or need one for the duration of the beta please reach out to me via PM with your current WHMCS License Number and I will assist you.

As always please do not run the BETA on your production instances

WHMCS 7.8 migrates the Stripe integration to use Stripe Elements (https://stripe.com/en-es/payments/elements). Primarily Stripe Elements means reduced PCI compliance requirements for you as a merchant. By using Stripe Elements, no sensitive data hits your servers and you qualify for the easiest form of PCI compliance which shields you from costly and time-sensitive audits. In addition, WHMCS 7.8 features full support for 3D Secure - also commonly known as Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode - including 3D Secure V2 which provides compliance with the upcoming SCA requirements in Europe. No actions are needed in order to leverage the new functionality, but it is important as always to ensure you update custom checkout and order form templates to ensure compatibility.

I've created a special thread here for feedback, issues and questions specific to Stripe in the V7.8 Beta

@WHMCS Lawrence @WHMCS ChrisD What is the expectation regarding existing clients with stored card details?

Will they have to login and reauthenticate or will the updated version create Stripe Subscriptions as per the Stripe dashboard?

@tmr thanks for your question, the tokens will carry across to Stripe Elements & our new Pay Methods feature. Automated recurring payments are performed using stored tokens. If a client card requires SCA, the payment attempt will be denied and the client will be required to login to WHMCS to manually process the payment.  If you have any questions regarding this once you are on the beta please feel free to add them to the dedicated stripe thread.

Hi all,

In version 7.8 we intend to include an update to the Stripe module which will have support for Stripe's Payment Intents API. This is currently being advertised by Stripe as being "SCA Ready".

Please stay tuned to our blog and the community in the coming weeks for news on the 7.8 beta. Your help in testing these Stripe module updates will be appreciated.

Thank's for the update John, really appreciated.

We are slightly worried this is going to really affect us and our monthly recurring Auto payments, which is what makes Stripe and WHMCS so effective.

@365Hosts You might find a few payments will decline as SCA rolls out, based on the card issuer's policy.  If this does happen once you are on V7.8 your client should just need to re-enter their card details or manually pay the invoice to go down the 3D Secure path. From what we've been able to determine it won't happen to every transaction, and could vary depending on the client's card issuer and bank policy.

For further questions on this aspect of the new banking requirements I suggest speaking with Stripe support, as WHMCS doesn't control when SCA is required for a transaction.
